My mission as a Health and Wellness Coach is to help those with Parkinson’s and Chronic Pain, their caregivers, immediate family members, and those in their close social circle with the most effective natural therapies to live a healthy and productive life
In the past two decades, three life-changing medical issues occurred that changed my outlook towards life that redefined my life purpose.
First, in the late 1990s, I was diagnosed with a mysterious illness. The physicians at the local Los Angeles facility did not know what the disease was, nor did they know how to treat my illness. My blood samples were sent all over the United States for diagnosis. Finally, a female researcher in Oregon sent back a question to the local physicians, asking “if I had pet birds at home?” Indeed, I had, dozens of African Grays to Cocktails. It took a team of pulmonologists and rare infectious disease specialists approximately a year to diagnose Fancier’s Pneumonitis.
“Fancier’s Pneumonitis is a type of hypersensitivity pneumonitis, an immunologically mediated lung disease due to repetitive exposure of airborne avian antigen. The reaction to the airborne avian antigen can cause inflammation in the air sacs in one or both lungs, which if left untreated can be life-threatening. The disease is so rare that there are no known curable treatments.”
Since there were no known treatments available, the doctors prescribed a long-term High Dose Prednisone Therapy, which suppresses the symptoms with severe side effects.
“As a result, I gained 72 lbs. to 237 lbs., which as expected lead to Type II Diabetes, lifelong inability to sleep, as I was warned, inability to sleep, and a score of other side effects from weak muscles to shaking of hands, involuntary muscle twitching to muscle tightening, shaking of the hands that I could not control, numbness, burning, tingling in the face, arms, legs, feet, and hands, etc.”
Later in 2010, when I was in Malaysia on a major consulting assignment, my clients noticed tremors and loss of balance and advised me to consult a neurologist. I immediately returned States-side for diagnosis and treatment. team of neurologists and movement disorder specialists approximately two years to finally diagnose Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM).
“The reaction to the airborne avian antigen can cause inflammation in the air sacs in one or both lungs, which if left untreated can be life-threatening. The disease is so rare that there are no known curable treatments.”
PD, a non-curable disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominately dopamine-producing (“dopaminergic”) neurons in a specific area of the brain called substantia nigra. The symptoms develop gradually over the years.
“The movement-related (“motor”) symptoms include but are not limited to tremors, bradykinesia, limb rigidity, gait, loss of balance, and falling down, etc.
In addition to movement-related (“motor”) symptoms, Parkinson’s symptoms may be unrelated to movement (“non-motor”).
“People with PD are often more impacted by their non-motor symptoms than motor symptoms. Examples of non-motor symptoms include but are not limited to apathy, depression, constipation, sleep behavior disorders, loss of sense of smell, and cognitive impairment.”
Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) is a progressive neuromuscular disorder an inflammatory muscle disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting. IBM involves a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The symptoms include progressive muscle weakness and aches, difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), and frequent falling.
